Cross-Cutting

Principles Across Our Work

Mazingira Yetu integrates cross-cutting priorities throughout programme design, implementation, monitoring and learning. These priorities help ensure that environmental interventions are inclusive, responsible, participatory and sustainable.

Our cross-cutting priorities are:

  • Gender Equality & Social Inclusion
  • Youth Engagement & Green Livelihoods
  • Safeguarding & Accountability
  • Community Ownership
  • Environmental and Social Responsibility
  • Knowledge and Learning

Gender Equality & Social Inclusion

Inclusive Environmental Action

Environmental and climate challenges affect people differently depending on access to resources, information, services, livelihood opportunities and decision-making processes. Mazingira Yetu integrates gender equality and social inclusion into programme design, implementation, monitoring and learning. We promote meaningful participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities and other groups that experience barriers to environmental decision-making and economic opportunities.

Our approach supports environmental interventions that are inclusive, responsive and accessible to different groups within communities.

Youth Engagement & Green Livelihoods

Supporting the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders

Young people play an important role in environmental protection, climate action, innovation and the development of green economic opportunities. Mazingira Yetu supports youth participation through environmental education, skills development, leadership opportunities and environmentally responsible livelihood initiatives.

Our areas of engagement include recycling, circular-economy enterprises, ecosystem restoration, environmental technology, sustainable natural-resource enterprises and climate-resilient livelihood activities.

Safeguarding & Accountability

Responsible Programmes. Safe Participation.

Mazingira Yetu is committed to responsible, respectful and ethical engagement with communities, staff, partners and stakeholders.

We integrate safeguarding, confidentiality, informed participation, responsible data management and environmental and social safeguards into programme planning and implementation.

We provide channels through which stakeholders provide feedback, raise concerns and contribute to improving programmes and organizational practices.

Our institutional systems promote accountability, dignity, ethical conduct and responsible engagement.
